Fake website checker: what you can do by eye
A fake website checker does not need software. These manual checks catch the spelled-wrong, wrong-ending address that many scams rely on.
- Spelling. Read every letter. CISA, a United States agency, lists incorrect links and untrusted shortened URLs among the common signs of phishing.
- Pressure. A message that demands you act at once is a sign. CISA lists urgent or emotionally appealing language the same way.
- Requests. A page that asks for personal or financial information before it has shown you anything is a stop.

Read Chrome’s security symbol correctly
Chrome help says a symbol to the left of the web address shows the connection status: secure, info or not secure, and not secure or dangerous. It also describes a “Did you mean” or “Fake site ahead” message, which appears when Chrome thinks the address may be meant for a different site than the one you expected.
