Data usage in a phone browser comes from three places: the pages and artwork a tab loads, anything that updates in the background and the streaming a live table needs. Your phone counts all of it, and mobile data usage shows in the same settings screen whichever site you used. This page lists where the count lives and which setting trims it. It is one of the spokes of the android games pillar.

Data usage: what drives it and where to read it

DriverWhat it means for a sessionWhere you control it
Page and artwork loadsEach screen of the lobby loads imagesWi-Fi instead of mobile data
Open tabsMore tabs mean more activityClose inactive tabs in Chrome
Background activitySites and software refresh while idleData Saver or Low Data Mode
Live videoA live table streams while it is openSee the Evo live pillar
Chrome preloadingChrome loads pages it expects you to visitSettings, then Privacy and security, then Preload pages

No figure for megabytes per spin, per hour or per live table is printed here, because none is sourced. Measure your own: note the total before and after.

Mobile data usage on a Pixel and on an iPhone

  1. Pixel: open Settings, tap Network & internet, then SIMs. The total data you use is at the top.
  2. Tap App data usage for graphs, and tap the down arrow to pick a time period.
  3. Look below the graph to see how much each app uses, Chrome included.
  4. iPhone: open Settings, tap Cellular, and scroll down to see which apps use cellular data.

Google’s page adds that your phone measures the usage shown in Settings and some carriers measure differently, so check with your carrier for its numbers and your plan limits. You can also set a data warning or a limit on a Pixel from the same screen.

Data Saver and Low Data Mode

Data Saver is the Pixel setting named on Google’s help page. Turn it on under Settings, then Network & internet, then Data Saver. A status-bar icon shows while it is on, and the Unrestricted data list lets a chosen app use mobile data anyway.

PixelData SaverSettings, then Network & internet, then Data Saver
iPhoneLow Data ModeSettings, then Cellular, then Cellular Data Options
iPhone on Wi-FiLow Data ModeSettings, then Wi-Fi, then the Info button

Apple’s page says Low Data Mode stops using network data when you are not actively using software, turns off Background App Refresh and reduces the quality of streaming content.

Problem

Your plan has a data limit and Wi-Fi is available

Fix

On Android, connect to Wi-Fi, open Settings, tap Network & internet, then Internet, tap your network, then Network usage and Treat as metered. Google’s page says a metered network gives you more control over how much data your phone uses.

When pages load badly

A slow tab is not always a data problem. If taps fail too, go to the touch screen not working page, and if you want to know what the network layer does, read how to change DNS on Android.

FAQ

How much mobile data does a casino session use?

No figure is sourced, so this site prints none. Your phone counts it for you: note the total on your data screen before a session and again after, and the difference is your own number.

Where do I see data usage on a Pixel phone?

Open Settings, tap Network & internet, then SIMs. The total shows at the top, and App data usage gives graphs and a per-app breakdown. Google's help page adds that carriers may measure usage differently, so check your carrier for its count.

What does Data Saver do?

Google's help page says Data Saver lets most apps and services get background data only over Wi-Fi, while currently active ones can still use mobile data. You find it under Settings, then Network & internet, then Data Saver.

Is there an equivalent on iPhone?

Yes. Apple's help pages name Settings, then Cellular for the usage list and Low Data Mode for restricting background network use.
